The Shawshank Redemption narrative of Andy Dufresne is often interpreted solely as the physical act of 'escape,' but underlying it is the meticulous process of 'seizing power' that unfolded over twenty years. Andy invests his intellectual ability into the most vulnerable parts of the prison — a closed and oppressive system — namely 'money' and 'knowledge,' transforming a simple inmate into the indispensable 'manager' of the entire prison system.

1. Discovering Financial Loopholes: Andy as Accountant

When Andy arrived at the prison, he was a person familiar with external systems. His accounting knowledge became simultaneously a survival tool and the seed of power within the prison. It began with minor tasks like filing tax returns for guards, but this process provided him the opportunity to grasp the financial structure of the prison and the economic weaknesses of key individuals.
