Early in the film Kujan interrogates Verbal to get to the bottom of events. When Verbal evades, Kujan presses him: 'I'm smarter than you. I'm going to find out everything from you whether you like it or not!' In doing so, Kujan uses his logical advantage to accept Verbal's account as fact and reconstruct events. The audience, following Kujan's perspective, is guided to accept the clues he presents — such as the conclusion that Dean Keaton is Keyser Söze — as truth.
2. The Decisive Moment: The Collapse of Logical Structure
Kujan's role shines brightest at the film's end — the moment he discovers the truth. As the curtain is pulled back on the vast lie, Kujan discovers the logical flaw through physical objects.

- Kujan glances around deep in thought and drops his coffee cup. On its base he finds the brand name 'Kobayashi Porcelain' — the decisive proof that the bulk of Verbal's account was assembled on the spot from notices and objects in the office.
At this moment Kujan realises with shock that everything he believed was a staged lie, and rushes from the office.
3. Vicarious Satisfaction and Frustration
Kujan provides the audience with a 'normal process of deduction.' Together with him the audience listens to Verbal's account and strains to find logical gaps. Kujan's process of arriving at the truth perfectly mirrors the audience's own psychological process. But the moment Kujan realises the truth and flees in despair, Verbal (Keyser Söze) has already vanished — making Kujan the sacrificial lamb deceived by the vast curtain of lies.
